CPD – Supporting Patients During Cancer Therapy

Supporting Patients During Cancer Therapy: Evidence Informed Applications of Glutamine, Antioxidants, and RBAC

Rener Upskill Webinar presented by Samuel Peters | BioMedica

Online Event – Tuesday 14th April 7.30am-8.45am (AWST)

Conventional cancer therapies remain essential, yet they frequently burden patients with side effects that can compromise quality of life, immune capacity, and treatment continuity. In this session, Samuel will explore three evidence informed adjunctive strategies frequently discussed in supportive oncology care:

• Glutamine – reviewed through the lens of human clinical trial data and clinical application for treatment tolerance and mucosal integrity, alongside a balanced discussion of the long standing “glutamine feeds cancer” concern.

• Antioxidant therapy – a practical, clinician focused overview of redox biology and dosing principles, including why the term “antioxidant” can be a misnomer and misleading.

• Rice Bran Arabinoxylan Compound (RBAC) – a concise clinical summary highlighting the biological activity and research-based applications in supporting quality of life and long-term wellbeing of cancer patients.

Designed for time poor clinicians, the session focuses on translating evidence into clinical reasoning, highlighting where the data is most compelling, where uncertainties remain, and strategies to enhance patient-centred care.

Key learning outcomes:

• Clarify the role of oxidative stress and antioxidant therapy during conventional cancer treatment.

• Understand the evidence and safety considerations for glutamine in oncology care.

• Explore RBAC as an immunologically active agent to support patients during treatment and for long-term wellbeing.
