Currently, the HICAPS service is available at participating: General dentists, endodontists, prosthodontists, dental prosthetists, periodontists, paediatric dentists, dispensing optometrists, optical dispensers, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, podiatrists, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech pathologists, dietitians, remedial massage therapists and acupuncturists.
How does HICAPS work?
HICAPS is as easy as using EFTPOS. After the consultation, a patient’s health fund card is swiped through the HICAPS terminal, treatment details are keyed into the terminal and the claim request is sent for authorisation to the patient’s health fund.
Once the claim is authorised the terminal prints two receipts, one for the patient to sign confirming that the transaction is correct and held by the practice and the other for the patient to retain.
For the Naturopaths once the patient’s claim is authorised they are guaranteed payment from the patient’s health fund
The patient can then choose to pay the balance amount (the difference between the charge of the treatment provided and the amount claimed) by making use of the terminal’s EFTPOS functionality. Patients can use their debit or credit card to pay the balance.
